How to write great game prompts in ForgeClan Studio

The quality of your game depends heavily on your prompt. Here is the formula we recommend for writing great game prompts in ForgeClan Studio.

The five-part formula

  1. Genre and goal — "A top-down zombie survival game where you last as long as possible."
  2. Controls — "WASD to move, mouse to aim, click to shoot."
  3. Rules — "Zombies spawn faster each wave. Health packs drop randomly."
  4. Screens — "Start screen, pause with P, game-over screen with restart, saved high score."
  5. Style — "Dark pixel art, red glow effects, retro sound effects."

Change one thing at a time

After the first build, ask for one change per message: "Make the player faster", "Add a boss every 5 waves". Small changes are easier to check and use fewer retries.

Attach references

Use the paperclip to attach a sketch or screenshot, or the microphone to speak your idea.

Use Knowledge

In the More menu, open Knowledge and save rules the Studio should always follow, like your game's story or colour palette.

Common mistakes

  • Prompts that are too vague ("make a fun game")
  • Asking for ten features at once
  • Forgetting how the player wins or loses
